Manon and Lights of Hope

Manon worked for several years as the Director of Finance at St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. She was greatly appreciated and loved by her colleagues there. She is remembered in two significant ways around Christmas time.

Manon Charette Fund

The “Manon Charette Fund” was set up at the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation when Manon passed away. During Manon’s illness, a treatment account had been created from funds that were donated and raised by friends who organized and participated in numerous events to help with medical expenses for Manon such as drugs not approved in Canada and procedures not covered. When Manon passed away, the funds remaining in the treatment account were placed in the Manon Charette Fund. Also, many people made donations to St Paul’s Foundation in Manon’s memory. This fund has now grown to almost $30,000. As some of you know, around Christmas time Manon would thoughtfully buy supplies and assemble care packages for people living on the streets who had to visit the Emergency Department at St Paul’s. She also gave jackets and outdoor clothing to the nearby shelter. Judy has ensured that annual proceeds from the Manon Charette fund are keeping this initiative going and honouring Manon’s memory at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.

Christmas Lights of Hope

Each year the St Paul’s Hospital Foundation holds its Lights of Hope Campaign. When Manon worked at St Paul’s Hospital Foundation she volunteered her time helping to set up the Lights of Hope display. The Foundation placed a special star for Manon in the display for two years. The star has a blue centre and is outlined lights and it says “In memory of Manon Charette”.
